We take a look at The Manchester Garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019. Designed by Exterior Architecture it honours the great city’s past, present and future.

As Manchester was at the heart of the industrial revolution it developed very quickly which left very little green space. The garden was created to illustrate their desire to be at the forefront of urban planting. It also celebrates the ethos of green spaces such as Angel Meadows.

There were 10 trees in the garden which signify the 10 local authorities in Manchester.

Central to The Manchester Garden at RHS Chelsea was a water feature that represents Manchester’s water ways. It also demonstrates the influence they’ve had on its development.

Our Ice Blue Pebbles were chosen to decorate the water feature. We thought they looked fantastic against the planting which included flowers such as Valeriana Officinalis, Camassias and Lupinus.

These plants were dotted around the garden in a freer form of planting as if they had self-seeded which created a natural feel.

Our Ice Blue Pebbles also contrasted beautifully with the honeycomb grey stepping stones and paving. These represent the worker bee, a symbol of Manchester.

The garden also showcases an intricate sculpture that each plant was handwoven around. Symbolising ingenuity, technology and manual labour, the sculpture perfectly represents the city.
