The RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2021 is going ahead as planned! We are very excited to be involved this year. The show runs from the 21^st to the 25^th of July and we are especially looking forward to the RHS Young Designer of the Year 2021 Competition as we are supporting two of the finalists.

In its twelfth year, the competition gives ambitious garden designers under the age of 28 a chance to kick-start their careers. Each year the prestigious event allows aspiring garden designers to gain exposure whilst competing for the coveted title of RHS Young Designer of the Year 2021.

This year five finalists were tasked to design a thought-provoking garden which highlights issues of sustainability and mental health. We were delighted to be approached by two of the young designers to donate our decorative aggregates for use within their beautiful show gardens. The two very different designs are reflective of the garden focus.

The Earth Garden

With a focus on sustainability, Max Parker-Smith has designed ‘The Earth Garden’. Inspired by David Attenborough’s quote, “It’s surely our responsibility to do everything within our power to create a planet that provides a home not just for us, but for all life on Earth”. Max is creating a low carbon footprint space in which wildlife is catered for and plants dominate. It challenges us to live in closer harmony with nature by stripping back materialistic desires.

He selected our sustainable White Limestone 10mm Gravel to provide a light gravelled surface to contrast the colourful plants. The planting itself consists of a stunning variety of different shapes and textures. Featuring bold blocks of white, silver, purple, burnt orange and pink. These colour tones take centre stage in the front garden. Whilst the Garden Room showcases a stunning tree surrounded by a more subtle colour palette.

The Dreamscape Garden

Ellie Edkins has designed the ‘Dreamscape Garden’ with a focus on mental health and wellbeing. This garden provides the ability to escape reality. It therefore imagines a brighter place which takes us away from the frightening every day. The garden is also a meditative, dreamlike space that leaves the visitor feeling more positive.

To enhance the dreamlike quality of the garden there is a restricted colour palette. This allows a focus on texture and movement in the planting. Therefore our Goldpath Self-binding Gravel acts as a backdrop to the soft, ethereal planting. It complements the garden with it’s bright colour tones. Seating areas provide the opportunity to relax, breathe and enjoy the surroundings.

Both gardens are being created and look absolutely stunning. Huge congratulations to both Max and Ellie! We wish them the very best of luck and can’t wait to see them at the show!
